Air New Zealand Safety
Digital Marketing
Getting passengers to watch in-flight safety video has always been a challenge for airlines, so over the last couple of years a few different angles have surfaced.
Virgin (as well as a few others) are using cartoon and 3D animation…

But Air New Zealand may have taken a big gamble and has just come out with the ‘Bare Essentials’ of safety, in which the crew wear only body paint. This is in follow on to their “Nothing to Hide” marketing campaign.
By posting the video to You Tube, in just 5 days they have had 21,938 views. Let’s face it, the feedback that an airline would normally get about their in-flight safety video would probably be zip! By posting it online, not only will loyal customers comment, but so too will those who have never or may never fly with them.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Will the video have a long box office run onboard the aircraft? Either way they have used a product they already own for some quick free social media marketing. They have even uploaded the ‘bloopers video’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsLy9Y7KsVI)
